I don’t mean to be grim, but I’ve had a few encounters today with thoughts of death. First, I was shocked and saddened to hear that Greenwood’s own Gaines Adams passed away this morning of complictions from an enlarged heart. He was 26 years old and by all accounts in the prime of his life as a Chicago Bear.
That, I know, does not relate to this picture. During my Sunday night call with Daddy, he shared with me some sad news. His sister, Millie passed several months ago. He drove by her house today and saw folks there so he stopped thinking it was my cousin. As it turns out, my cousin has emptied the house and sold it without ever asking my dad if there was anything in there that he wanted of his sister’s. My dad is not a sentimental man, but there was a trinket he made for Mimmie and Dub that he would have liked. My cousin Charlene has sold it all. A few years ago, I managed to get my hands on a few things that I had treasured as a child from Mimmie. She gave me a pair of cameo earrings, and a few trinkets like this bar set and a weather predictor. I also managed to get all of the family photos. I win.
