June 17: Twenty-Five Years of Discovery

Today, Discovery Communications celebrated its 25th anniversary. Although I telecommute and sometimes don’t feel as connected to the mother ship as I’d like, I am super excited about the vision of John Hendricks. He is a true maverick. When I was 15 years old, he created this cable company with the belief that folks would actually watch TV that teaches. I’ve never met him, but I think he probably understands lifelong learning better than most.
To celebrate our company’s 25th anniversary, our offices are closed tomorrow. Wanna know why? Because all employees are spending the day volunteering. For Christmas this year, we were each given $25 in credit at Global Giving to donate to the charity of our choice. For those of us who work remotely by the way, we get to make cards tomorrow for kids who are terminally ill. I am blessed to work for such a great company. Happy 25 years, Discovery. I love you.

Special thanks to my friend Riptide for sharing the cool Draw with Stars! app!
