Sept 27: Goodbye Johni

This summer, I had a meeting in Rapid City, SD. While there, I got to spend a few hours with Cody since he is stationed there. He introduced me to his house mate, Pat and friend, Johni. I had such a good time with these young men, even if all we did was go to the grocery store.
Johni was known to me initially only as Johni Drama. He sure was full of it too! At 19, he just became a father for the second time. He was hoping to meet his infant son soon.
I loved getting to know Cody’s buddies. We stayed in touch on Facebook and Twitter. I felt great compassion for Johni. His soul was tortured and I’m a sucker for a tortured soul. He had great promise too. Johni was funny and full of spunk. He was kind and quirky.
Today, I was enjoying my time on the world’s longest covered porch, when Bill saw on Facebook that one of Cody’s friends had died in a car accident. Johni.
I have had a beautiful day up here, but my heart has been heavy all day. I think this is the first time I’ve been touched by one of those young person killed in car accident situations. Although I didn’t know him well, I knew and cared about him. I can’t believe the world is without him now.
