Dec 24: Adventures in Baking

P3060P3062

When I was a senior in high school, I met Elsie at her bakery. She was having trouble keeping good help on Saturdays, so I accepted the challenge. Mind you, I had no experience in the kitchen whatsoever. This became obvious to Elsie the first morning I showed up to work and proceeded to discard the doughnut holes when they came out of the cutter!
Over the years, I learned a lot about baking and cooking in general. When I go to visit Greenwood, I always enjoy meeting Elsie at the bakery. She always teaches me something. This trip, it was a peanut butter pie. I even helped a little.
Elsie remains one of my favorite people. I think I’d like to spend a week with her now that I’m an adult and could really appreciate it.
Today, I tried to make Momma’s fudge. It looks mighty good!
