August 9, 2011: Uncle Crate

P604

I’m pretty sure this is a picture of my mother holding me and Uncle Crate seated. I don’t have a lot of memories of him. He and Aunt Ruth parted ways when I was still pretty young. I do remember that he ran a filling station. This is technically different from a gas station in that repairs and services were performed on site. I remember liking to play there amongst the oily tools and used tires.
I remember walking in on him in the bathroom at Granny and Papas house and feeling embarrassed to be near him for some time. (it’s funny what freaks out little kids, I think)
I remember he fell off a ladder once and was hurt.
I’m sure there were other memories I once had of Uncle Crate, but time steals them.
